State-of-the-art sound system to transform Eswatini’s artistic scene

MANZINI – Eswatini’s artistic landscape is set for a seismic shift as the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) unveils cutting-edge sound equipment designed to elevate local talent.

Branded ‘Audiocenter,’ this top-tier professional audio system combines global standards with local ambitions, promising an unparalleled auditory experience for artists and event organisers across the kingdom.

According to ENCAC CEO Stanley Dlamini, the sound system is truly monumental, capable of serving two venues simultaneously. “The sound has arrived, and we’re just waiting for the mobile stage and vehicles. When we requested this equipment, we specified it needed to cater for audiences of up to 5,000. Some festivals haven’t yet reached that number, but with this system, we can split the sound across two locations at once,” Dlamini explained.

He also emphasised the importance of empowering young sound engineers to operate such sophisticated technology. “We will select individuals from various regions and offer specialised training in sound engineering. A South African professional will lead this workshop, and we’ll announce the details soon so young people can participate and gain valuable skills,” he added.

Musician Sancheziey attended the launch and spoke on behalf of local artists, praising ENCAC’s unwavering support. “It started with a studio, and now we have this state-of-the-art sound system. As an artist, I wonder what’s next. On behalf of all artists, I thank the council for answering our prayers. This equipment will help us host listening sessions and launch our projects more effectively. We hope for more developments to come. Artists are urged to use the system wisely so it can serve us for years to come,” he said.

Event organiser Culolam, a member of the Eswatini Events Management and Promoters Association, expressed excitement about the potential of the new equipment. “Seeing such high-quality gear is a dream come true for ENCAC’s CEO, especially the vision of more festivals across regions. There’s immense talent in the countryside, and this system makes touring and talent discovery much easier. I was inspired by Gospel artist Samkelo Matse’s recent trip to Zimbabwe it’s proof that regional acts can shine internationally. With this sound, indigenous music, especially boMakhoyane, will be showcased more prominently. ‘Audiocenter’ and ‘JBL’ are powerful brands, and I hope the council will also consider hiring a dedicated sound engineer, a real job opportunity,” he said.

Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima expressed his happiness for artists, affirming that access to quality sound will boost local creativity. “I am delighted that artists now have this advanced equipment. We hope it creates employment opportunities and is used sustainably. When festivals involve local artists, organisers should provide the sound system free of charge. I also want to address rumours suggesting funds were returned to government, that’s false. The money was used to secure this system, which will benefit our artists and generate jobs,” he stated.

Nzima concluded by urging artists to care for the equipment. “This system is meant for artists to utilise. We thank arts and culture for making this a reality. The government’s mandate is clear: to create more opportunities for our youth. When borrowing the system, artists should provide a list of at least ten local acts they intend to support and pay adequately,” he added.
